The utmost is held only in the human conscience which as a whole harbours our actions and thoughtfulness, we just need to look around and exploit the good. One such good comes with helping the elderly in dealing with the disabilities due to the wear and tear of ageing. Old is closely related to gold, the more it is treasured the more it will make you feel powerful. In the similar manner a person in the later part of his life should be loved and cared for he can brighten up your world with the experiences he has acquired all his life. But the ugly truth is, once they are no more able to earn or become weak physically, it becomes an apple of discord for the family members to give them the love and care they deserve. Studies reveal that India has a population of around 100 million old people and the number will soar to around 324 million by 2050. With the increasing elderly population the inhuman treatment they face has become rampant. Many of them have succumbed to the circumstances for the sake of the love for their loved ones and for finding tranquillity. Going to temples and mosques is a part of our existence, but if you really want to give due respect to God, try to respect your ageing parents and relatives. Find some time from your busy schedule to listen to their tribulations related to their health, money and everything, the way they listened to you when you were a child. Teach your children to be respectful and compassionate to the elderly.
Whenever there is a disaster, philanthropists are on the ground providing relief, support and assistance. They address the immediate and long-term needs of people impacted by natural disaster by responding promptly, providing physical and mental relief. According to a survey more than 90% of natural disaster related deaths occur in developing countries, where poverty and lack of resources increase suffering. Humanitarian reliefs work in many of these countries preparing for disaster before they occur. They respond quickly when disaster strikes and engage them. First they respond with life saving emergency aid and then they continue with long term relief to help victims recover and rebuild. They work to stabilize families, providing them assistance with water, sanitation, health care, child protection activities, economic development and temporary shelter. First in and last out has become the guiding principle of humanitarian actors and are guided in their action by neutrality, impartiality, humanity and independence.
Environmental, pollution is one of the greatest problems that we are experiencing today. It is increasing with every passing year and causing grave and irreparable damage to the earth in the form of Global warming, Ozone Depletion, pollution in all forms and over population. All of us want to protect our planet, but we are lazy in implementing the measures in practice. Energy conservation, planting trees, turning off devices when not in use, maximum use of public-transit and proper maintained vehicles are important ways to keep, our environment pollution free. We have never ending demands, but it’s time to protect and improve our environment because man made disruptions to environment can cause extinction of plants, animals and humans. It is also imperative because humankind owes a moral obligation to the environment (natural world) and our entire life support system is dependent on the proper maintenance of the ecosystem. Maintaining a clean environment is essential for healthy living and for the sake of our future.
Poverty alleviation is one of the vital strategies to support transformational change that brings about real improvements in people’s lives. Though the number of extreme poor has dropped by 650 million in the last three decades, human poverty still remains widespread in certain parts of the world, especially in developing countries. It includes the promotion of various economic and humanitarian reliefs that aims to lift people out of poverty. “International Day for the Eradication of Poverty†has been observed every year since 1993 to promote awareness of the need to alleviate poverty and to ensure a sustainable future and dignity for all. Living conditions of poor can be improved by providing aids. Economic liberalization can also be achieved through poverty alleviation programs. According to the World Bank,†working consciously on land rights of poor people is the key to reducing povertyâ€. Women constitute half of the population and boosting their income will take the society to an entirely different level. It will create lasting opportunities to lift their families out of poverty, inculcating dignity, self-sufficiency and spurs investment in children. Eradicating poverty in all its dimensions is imperative and NGOs play a significant role in offering relief and aid to individuals who are suffering from extreme poverty. We as human own the responsibility to help these people living in despair.
“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach him how to fish and he will eat for lifetimeâ€, the saying has a hidden and potent message. Nothing, but Education alone has power to change a person’s way of thinking which can change the way she perceives the world. It has the power to create a heavenly planet by eradicating menaces like gender inequality, poverty, terrorism and the plethora of hindrances in the way to a jovial life. It is the only currency whose value never depreciates and fosters global prosperity. Once you invest into education it multiplies manifolds unlike many other materialistic investments whose value rather downgrade with each passing day. One should consider education as the greatest bank balance which will safely and securely be with the owner, as long as he/she will live. Once when the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon was asked by a curious lot of people that how his country the Republic of Korea transformed from poverty to prosperity, to this he replied affirmatively, nothing but “education was the key to itâ€. We therefore, need to act with an optimistic frame of mind and conviction to bring about the much needed revolution.
Children are an asset to a family to a nation to the world and to the Universe. Children have all the right to be protected, to be cared, to be loved and to be brought up in safe and friendly environment. A family is the first place for a child to learn and it is the moral responsibility of the parents to spearhead the upheaval to create a cordial and affectionate ambience around for the healthy growth of the child. Outside home, it is the School where child spends most of his time and so the schools are obliged to protect the child’s right so that they can learn and grow to their fullest potential. Many children today, are the victims of sexual abuse, exploitation, exclusion, and child-labour and are striving hard to fight the jeopardy. According to the estimations, around 150 million children aged 5-14 are engaged in child labour and millions of children, mostly girls, work as domestic help. These uninformed perils, retard a child’s growth and unable them to pursue their dreams in life. So, it is the need of the hour that we as a whole, the Governments, communities, local authorities and the Non Governmental organizations come together to build a more amicable environment in which children can feel safe.
As much as, the natural progression of humans is organic to the existence of the universe, so is the well-being of animals. Talk about altruism or about the reasonable scientific considerations, in both the cases, we tiptoe into a world brimming with love for animals. We oft not notice the subtleties, but we humans, need them way more than they need us. The exuberant art that a peacock displays by fluttering its wings flamboyantly is something that can make your day. And thus, it should be our moral obligation to protect them from varied sufferings which can include, animal slaughter for food, the callous treatment they are given when used for scientific researches and the way they are kept in zoos, circuses, farms etc. Animal Welfare implies, “embryonic thoughtfulness that taking good care of them is not superfluous to our dutiesâ€. Raising them in pasturelands, feeding them with right quantity and quality of food, providing them adequate medical care are an altogether part of our responsibility as a human being. They are very much a part of our family, the slogan “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakamâ€, meaning the world is one family is not exceptional to animals.
